Email Your Future Self
By Katie Hoyt
Want to give your future self some advice, but can’t quite figure out a failsafe way to make sure that advice is delivered?
Well futureme.org is a website that allows you to post emails to yourself which will be sent to your inbox up to 50 years from now. Already more than 400,000 people have visited the site to send messages to themselves that are both insightful and humorous.
The website was created in 2002 by Matt Sly and Jay Patrikios. There is no fee to use the site as it is not-for-profit, but it does have a PayPal account set up if you wish to donate some money. The site is still run by Sly and Patrikios.

A book called Dear Future Me: Hopes, Fears, Secrets, Resolutions was published by Matt Sly and Jay Patrikios in 2007 and includes 280 of the public but anonymous emails.
When visiting the site you have the option of delivering your letter as private (meaning it is only delivered to the email address you enter) or “public but anonymous.” The “public but anonymous” emails can be viewed by anyone on the website but they do not include your contact name or email address.
Some of the emails included in the book are from an Alzheimer’s patient wanting to preserve his memories and thoughts, to a soldier on his way to Iraq. The book runs $13.25 and is available on amazon.com.
